"POP ART has been a large artistic influence on me for most of my life. It's
lifespan as an art movement was considerably short according to critics. I
believe Pop Art is as relevant today as it ever was because
it is all around us.
Peeling billboards revealing layers of images are Rosenquist, the skeleton of
an abandoned gas station is Ruscha. Warhol is a series of posters repetitively
pasted on sides of buildings, Indiana is in the numbers, and Johns and
Rauschenberg are picking through litter after a parade on main street - urban
life is like living in a Pop Art museum.
MARK SCANTLING began his career as a professional artist in  2004.
His work is in private and corporate collections across the U.S.,
                Britain, Australia, and Sweden.
I grew up in west Texas where western
art and culture was everywhere, and it
too shaped my artistic vision. Early on, I
learned about great American artists of
the west and I was fortunate to visit
many museums throughout the west to
see works by Russell and Remington,
O'Keeffe and the Taos and Santa Fe
Artists, Peter Hurd and so many more.

Today, I blend Pop Art techniques with
familiar symbols and elements of
western icons to create truly unique
paintings that engage the viewer and
challenges one's concept of western
art."
